Services within separating walls must be detailed correctly to ensure that the acoustic performance of the wall is not reduced. The usual solutions are to stagger the services on either side of the wall and provide additional layers of plasterboard where the wall board is penetrated.

A typical detail for services in light steel framed separating wall is shown here.

  • Sockets and switches etc. must be staggered on each side of the wall.
  • This method is not preferred when there are several switches or sockets to be located close to each other.
